6/10/2023 0 Comments Oscar Wilde by Richard EllmannInfamous Lord Alfred Douglas, still upstaging Oscar with the most singular and gay line ever immortalized in poetry: “The love that dare not speak its name.” I’d expected a quick read, the prerequisite condemnations, and some salacious gossip. Bosie had been on my shelves for one decade, packed and unpacked across two boroughs and three apartments. It was for this reason and this reason alone that I devoured Douglas Murray’s Bosie: A Biography of Lord Alfred Douglas(2000) about Oscar Wilde’s historically problematic twink. The books I was then compelled to consider were a predictably weird lot–a direct reflection of my taste in general plus related ephemera. This unprecedented adventure was primarily an economic one: at the time I spent an inordinate amount of my income on books and assorted media and felt that specific cuts would help reign in what had started out as a passion but had slipped into an obsession. In 2015, I embarked upon the single bravest journey any avid reader can undertake: I publically forsook buying books for an entire year so that I might dedicate myself to reducing the teetering unread stacks I had purchased in the preceding decades. “A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” –Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde is Still Alive! The Best Books About Oscar Wilde 6/9/2023 0 Comments Cher by Lawrence J. QuirkLulu, which was released in 2011, was based on two works by German playwright Frank Wedekind and had an experimental, avant-garde feel, not unlike previous Lou albums (1973's Berlin, for example, or Metal Machine Music from 1975), but quite unlike anything Metallica had recorded before. It didn't seem like a particularly controversial idea - a metal band going head-to-head with a legendary New York songwriter who had released plenty of heavy records in his long career - but it's hard to think of an album that's come out this decade that's been quite so polarising, or caused such an uproar. Lou Reed and Metallica first performed together in 2009 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th Anniversary Concert, enjoyed the experience, and decided to record an album together. 6/9/2023 0 Comments The Castle by Franz Kafkathat looks great on the shelf in the archival fitted cover. This year, some of our favorite authors (Christina Lauren! Emily Henry! Abby Jimenez!) are back with some new novels, but we also found some brand-new authors to add to our list. During uncertain and stressful times, romance novels and rom-coms can provide a much-needed escape and put a smile on our faces. We love romance novels! Whether it's a beach read or something out of a Hallmark movie, there's nothing better than curling up with a good book. Agents of Dreamland is a new Lovecraftian horror novella from award-winning author Caitl n R. And a woman floating outside of time looks to the future and the past for answers to what can save humanity. Something out beyond the orbit of Pluto has made contact. A day after the events at the ranch house which disturbed the Signalman so deeply that he and his government sought out help from 'other' sources, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory abruptly loses contact with NASA's interplanetary probe New Horizons. The future is coming and they will help to usher it in. In a ranch house near the shore of the Salton Sea a cult leader gathers up the weak and susceptible - the Children of the Next Level - and offers them something to believe in and a chance for transcendence. Later that day he meets a woman in a diner to exchange information about an event that happened a week earlier for which neither has an explanation, but which haunts the Signalman. A government special agent known only as the Signalman gets off a train on a stunningly hot morning in Winslow, Arizona. And although at first he was reluctant with the nanny and kept his distance, little by little he begins to trust her, to the point that he discovers her past. However, he did not count on his parents hiring an uncertified babysitter named Linda to take care of him and his siblings. However, after having rescued an orphan baby, whom he and his siblings named Ruth, Tim decides to send his parents away, fed up with them "staining" the Willoughby name. He is the eldest and rational son of Walter and Helga Willoughby, like Jane, Barnaby A and Barnaby B, Tim suffered abuse by his parents, however, the abuse towards him was greater than towards his brothers, which made him take responsibility for their actions and carrying them on his shoulders, so he began to develop a certain fear of his parents, believing that at some point they could harm him and his siblings. Will Forte (United States) Timothy Anthony Malachy Willoughby is the main protagonist in the movie based on the children's book of the same name The Willoughbys. (LWB= The Little White Bird, P&W= Peter and Wendy, P&SC= Peter and the Starcatchers, P&ST= Peter and the Shadow Thieves, P&SR= Peter and the Secret of Rundoon, P&SM= Peter and the Sword of Mercy) The following table identifies distinct differences between the works of Barry and Pearson, and those of Barrie. Most of these differences are established in the first book in the series. The Starcatchers books have a number of continuity differences with the original novel, particularly contradicting the material in The Little White Bird, Barrie's prior story about Peter's early adventures. The fifth book – set in the present – breaks the pattern. Thus, each title takes the form Peter and the S_. The four prequels to Peter and Wendy take advantage of the logo design of the first Starcatchers book, which features an intertwined P and S. The first was written as a stand-alone prequel to the original work, but two follow-ups were promptly announced when it was successful, and a fourth (taking place years after the third) followed. The Starcatchers series of books by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson are a set of novels that tie in with the famous play about Peter Pan by J. 6/8/2023 0 Comments Before the Fall by Noah Hawleya complex, compulsively readable thrill ride of a novel."
